Marquis Teague has company in Chicago

The Chicago Bulls are continuing to bolster their point guard position as Derrick Rose’s knee injury is even more serious than doctors initially thought. It was reported last week that his rehab will likely sideline the 2011 MVP through March. In an effort to lessen the load on Marquis Teague, Chicago went out and signed Kirk Hinrich, the long-time Bull who was drafted by the organization nine years ago but had most recently played with Atlanta. The Bulls have added even more to the platoon, signing 5-foot-9 Nate Robinson Tuesday, known best for his stint with the Boston Celtics when he averaged over 17 points and 4 assists per game in 2009. Robinson had played most recently for the Oklahoma City Thunder in a very limited role, before moving to the Golden State Warriors and averaging over 11 points in 51 games. What does this mean for Teague? He’s moving down the Bulls depth chart. But not having the pressure of performing immediately and having the expectations of playoffs-or-bust placed on his shoulders during his rookie year will benefit well in the long run. Teague will have a host of other point guards to groom him, including another Calipari prodigy in Rose. Pairing the latest one-and-done with one of the originals will make for a good story line and a nice little pedigree setting up in Chi-town.
