Meet Bret Bloomquist

by:Thomas Beisner11/02/08
The new Associated Press poll was released today with lots of anticipation and speculating from the talking heads about who would be the number 1 team in the country.  Ultimately, Alabama assumed the top spot previously held by Texas, but that headline wasn't the most interesting part of the story to me.  That tidbit was found under "Others Receiving Votes" and listed the University of Louisville with 8 points received.  That's right, folks.  That 5-3 team down I-64, fresh off of a loss to one of the worst teams in the history of college football got top 25 votes.  So, who can they thank for this?  Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times, who has Louisville ranked at #18, two spots ahead of the conference leader West Virginia and four spots ahead of the second-best Big East team, Pitt.  Mr. Bloomquist even has the Filthy Cards, currently sixth in the Big East, ranked six spots ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs, who's only losses have come to his #1 and #7 team.  Now, that's just dumb.
