Memphis Back in SEC Tourney Rotation?

by:Patrick Barker05/06/10
fedex According to our favorite unbiased newspaper, Memphis has placed a bid to host the 2015 SEC Tourment.  This typically would receive a big whoop-dee-doo, but the back story is kind of interesting.  Since opening in 2004, the FedEx Forum (home to the Memphis Tigers and Grizzlies) hasn't even been in consideration for the SEC because of one man- John Calipari. Despite its relatively centralized location for the conference, reports say that Calipari "made sure" the C-USA Tournament was always held at FedEx and was concerned that the SEC invading Memphis could be used as a recruiting tool against the Tigers.  So, with Cal moved to Lexington, the resistance to the SECT being in Memphis is gone and the option is back on the table.  To be honest, I think there's also a belief in Memphis that they'll be a member of the SEC by 2015, too. The last two SEC Tournaments that were held in Memphis were in 1994 and 1997.  Other cities competing for the games are Nashville, Orlando, Tampa and New Orleans.  Just a small recommendation to the selection committee- please no Tampa.
