Michael from Dallas Heads to See the Cats

If you have listened to the KSR Radio Show, you have heard Michael in Dallas call in and give his insights into games. He is the young UK analyst who always has good opinions and he was able to go to College Station to see his Cats play Texas A&M. He filed this report for KSR. I was excited to go to the game to see Kentucky play and was really hoping we would have a John Hood sighting. I really thought this was his night and it was going to have a big game when the exit to head towards College Station was Madisonville. The Big Blue Nation was in full effect at Reed Arena for the game. I have always known that blue got in but I was really surprised at just how much blue there was. It was unbelievable! We had several A&M fans stop us and tell us how shocked they were at just how many UK fans were in the building. I think the A&M ushers and players were even shocked at the number of fans in blue lined around the court in pregame snapping pictures. The chants at the Harrison Twins from the UK fans and the Go Big Blue chants reminded me of South Carolina last year. There were times it turned into a home game. And then, all the chants and swaying back and forth by the A&M ‘yell leaders’ made it seem like somewhere I have never been. The football traditions simply don’t work at a basketball game. It was easy to see why UK gave up leads and turned the ball over 19 times with all the distractions going on around them. Some of the hand motions those guys were doing looked like things I would get in trouble for. I was confused as to why they were calling it a sellout when an entire portion of the upper level behind one of the baskets was completely empty. We were told that when they put in the new scoreboard, most of that section could not see the basket at the other end. From what I have been told, they have a really good engineering program. Hmmmm….. Speaking of tradition, in looking at some of the history of Texas A&M, they remind me a lot of the University of Louisville. They have the same ‘little brother’ problem of Texas that UL has of Kentucky. The words of the fight song are all about the University of Texas. To me, that’s ultimate jealousy. Hullabaloo, Caneck! That is the song they sing so well So good-bye to Texas University We're going to beat you all to-- Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem Chig-gar-roo-gar-rem Rough Tough! Real Stuff! Texas A&M! I am not sure what Hullabaloo, Caneck, Chiggarroogarrem mean, but the fans at Texas A&M sure get excited about these made up words. From the story I heard from an Aggie, because A&M was created before Texas, they don’t feel like UT should be the University of Texas. It was a great trip. I appreciate Jimmy Dykes and the Harrison Twins taking the time to take pictures with me. It wasn’t pretty at times, but the Cats pulled out a win and that was the icing on the cake.
