Mid-Afternoon Football Fix

This time tomorrow, the class of 2010 will be officially in the books (well almost). Lots of unknowns and uncertainties, including the possibilities of the Wildcats signing players up until Friday, when a few prospects could drag out the process (Pat Swilling, Jr. perhaps?). Regardless, we'll know the great gist of "the situation" tomorrow afternoon. Thus far, UK has lost one commitment in Kenarious Gates, an offensive lineman that will sign with Georgia after a late 48-hour offer, and could possibly lose another in Ryan Smith, an athlete out of Cordova (Ala.), who reportedly will announce his college decision at a press conference at his high school tomorrow. As many of you should know by now, I have Smith rated as the best player to sign with UK. I think he's a special athlete and someone that would be a killer blow to the class. Many people are speculating, since he's been committed to UK for so long, the idea of him calling a press conference is because he's flipping to someone else. The amazing thing is, after 12 months of recruiting battles, both of the losses will have come as a product of the past 72 hours. Crazy stuff. On the good news front, the 'Cats landed a commitment from 4-star tight end Alex Smith from Lakota West HS in Cincinnati. Great news for the future of the program, as UK has desperately been seeking a quality tight end prospect since TE Jacob Tamme departed two years ago. With the loss of three seniors, the timing couldn't have been better and it signals a step in the right direction in returning to the offensive glory seen in 2007. As for more surprises? Stay tuned. Joker Phillips hinted and we believe there are more than just Smith's addition to the surprise signings list. I'll be around tomorrow and look forward to enjoying the signing day festivities with you, bright and early here on KSR, as well as at The Cats Pause. Here's to the best holiday in February (sorry Valentine's Day, you've wasted enough of my money!)
