Might Want To Start Learning How To Spell Tarczewski

by:Will Lentz07/26/11

This is the kind of story you expect when you tell your friends not to worry about next years recruiting class – after all, we have John Calipari.  Just a few weeks ago Kentucky was nowhere to be found as one of Kaleb Tarczewski’s potential suitors, but that all changed at the Peach Jam.  Matt broke it to us first, saying that he was hearing Kentucky was in a much better position for Kaleb than most were thinking (and it certainly didn’t hurt that John Calipari was taking some games in around the same time.)  However, the feeling is spreading as ESPN is jumping on the story now, saying that Kentucky is working it’s way in with the number 9 ranked player in the 2012 class.

The post is insider, so here’s a snippet from Adam Finkelstein:

But this week in Las Vegas it became very clear that a new player was emerging in Tarczewski’s recruitment with Kentucky, and very often coach John Calipari himself, being front and center each time the No. 9 overall player took the court.

Tarczewski was a little up and down this week and by his own admission trying to get his confidence back, but even when not at his best it’s tremendously clear that he’s one of the premier big men in the country.

The fact that Kentucky has now joined Tarczewski’s “big three”, and is working hard to set up an unofficial visit of their own for next month, suggests the big fella’s recruitment may not be as close to an end as originally thought.

He may be right – Kaleb may not decide for a little bit – but everything we’ve been hearing is that he wants to make his intentions known over the next month or so.  And if that’s the case, I would rather be the school he suddenly has a mutual interest with than any of the other ‘big three,’ on his list, wouldn’t you?
