Mike Myers' Sunday News and Views

by:Jonathan Schuette05/25/13
mikemeyersaustinpowers Some might know May 25th as National Tap Dance Day, International Jazz Day, or even National Missing Children's Day, but those in the know recognize the true significance of this date. May 25th is of course known as the day which saw comedian/actor, Mike Myers, come into existence. Named Michael John Myers, the Canadian born comedian has accomplished just about everything a comic could hope for in the entertainment industry. Former member of Saturday Night Live? Check. Star in multiple movie series like Austin Powers, Wayne's World, and Shrek? Check. Lead vocalist of a band named Ming Tea acting as one of your movie characters? Check. Owning three dogs named Gilmour, Borchevsky, and 99 after famous Toronto Maple Leaf players? Check. His life achievements don't stop in the entertainment or dog naming industries either as he's married and has a single child named Spike. So here's to you Mike Myers! We here at KSR wish you the happiest of 50th birthdays with a clip from Austin Powers that still makes the 13 year old in me laugh to this day. On to the news of possibly the slowest news day in Kentucky Sports history. -The big news of the day was the commitment of three star Offensive Guard, Jarrett LaRubbio. The 6'5'', 280 pound Liberty Township, Ohio native was the the 26th best prospect in Ohio and the 16th rated Offensive Guard prospect in the nation according to Rivals. He held offers from Nebraska, North Carolina, Arizona State, Wisconsin, and Louisville among others. The commitment boosts Kentucky's already record class ranking to 16th in the country. This is good for 7th in the SEC, just behind Hugh Freeze's Ole Miss Rebels. The video below shows some of LaRubbio's finest work.   -Mark Stoops was certainly excited about the news.   -In the other major news of the day, Kentucky Softball traveled to Tempe, Arizona to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in Super Regional action. The result of the game is still in question at the time of this publishing due to the first pitch being set for 10 p.m. But as it currently stands, the Wildcats and Sun Devils are scoreless thru one inning. Sunday's game two is set to begin at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN, and if needed, Monday's game three is set to begin at 8 p.m. on ESPN2. While the weekend's result is unknown, we here at KSR wish Coach Rachel Lawson's Hittin' Kittens luck in Tempe.   -Three of Mark Stoops' current players are showcasing their character off the field this week. Jonathan George, Kevin Mitchell, and Avery Williamson are representing the Kentucky football team in Ethiopia on a week-long service mission. Kevin Mitchell had this to say about his experience. "I kind of knew what I was getting into, but it's a different world when you actually get here. Nobody can really describe how it really is. Once you see it with your own eyes, it's really unbelievable." For the full story, follow this link to UK Athletics' Cat Scratches Blog. Ethiopia2_jb   -John Calipari took to Twitter this afternoon and asked Big Blue Nation to pray for Patrick Patterson's grandfather who had open heart surgery yesterday. Be sure to send the Patterson family your well wishes in any way possible.   -Finally (and randomly), Dubstep is absolutely awful. As a musical genre it has absolutely no redeeming qualities unless you're on Molly/Ecstasy (which many of its listeners are). Unlike other musical genres which require actual talent to produce, Dubstep requires that you know how to combine a bass filled beat with ironic movie quotes from the 80's on your Macbook Pro. In other words, it's this generation's techno. If a lawnmower and a tornado siren had a horribly mutilated child with a bass fetish, it still wouldn't be as awful as Dubstep. That being said, I finally found a Dubstep video I enjoyed. I have no idea what the song is called, nor do I care, but the guy singing along with a technologically distorted face makes it one of the funnier things I've seen on the internet. Here's to you Dubstep Face Guy, thanks for making a Dubstep song hilarious/watchable.
