The family of Muhammad Ali announced funeral arrangements for The Champ in an afternoon press conference.
Muhammad Ali will journey back to his hometown of Louisville in the next 24-48 with his close family and friends. They will hold a private ceremony Thursday afternoon. After another private Friday morning ceremony, there will be a procession throughout downtown Louisville, traveling by the Ali Center, down Muhammad Ali Boulevard, ending with a trip down Broadway to Cave Hill Cemetery for a private burial.
Later Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., there will be a public interfaith ceremony celebrating his life at the Yum! Center. Not all eulogists have been confirmed, but the short list is impressive -- former President Bill Clinton, Senator Orrin Hatch, Bryant Gumbel and his good friend, Billy Crystal. If you cannot make it, the service will be streamed worldwide. Ali planned these services himself, many years ago.
The family spokesman said Ali first became ill on Monday. He passed away at 9:10 mountain standard time surrounded only by his immediate family. The cause of death was septic shock due to natural causes. He did not suffer in his final hours.
