Screen Shot 2016-07-28 at 8.29.30 AM In 2012, former Cat Nazr Mohammed launched the Nazr Mohammed Foundation to raise awareness for noteworthy causes through fundraising, camps, grants and scholarships. On Friday, August 5, Nazr will host his 5th annual fundraiser for the foundation, the Full Court Press Against Cancer, in Chicago to raise money for Different Shades of Pink, a not-for-profit charity committed to serving the “Right Now Needs” of breast cancer fighter’s, survivors and their families. Here's an excerpt from a letter Nazr wrote about the fundraiser:
This year, I have chosen to support an organization in the cancer community because of the recent effect it has had on people in my life. There are so many different types of cancer that have taken (and continue to take) the lives of loved ones from many families all over the world. Cancer knows no color, race, religious background, gender or sexual orientation. Cancer does not discriminate. However, let us not forget the many survivors who have beat the odds and conquered this horrible disease. Recently, cancer has hit closer to home taking the life of one friend and directly affecting three more people close to my heart. Having these friends diagnosed with four different types of cancer in a short period of time has opened my eyes to the unpredictable nature of this disease. I am hopeful that my friends will be able to beat this disease and become one of the many survivors of cancer. I will keep them in my thoughts and prayers. In the meantime, I will use my foundation as a platform to support them and organizations like Different Shades Of Pink (DSOP) that are on the front lines raising awareness and providing support to individuals and families in their fight against cancer.
If you're in the area, join Nazr in his cause on Friday, August 5 at the Galleria Marchetti, 825 West Erie Street, Chicago, Illinois. For more information and to purchase tickets, please click here.
