A former Kentucky Mr. Football is looking for a new home.Nebraska wide receiver/running back Wan’Dale Robinson entered the transfer portal on Monday, bidding adieu to the cornfields of Lincoln.

“Being away from my mother and not seeing her during the season hurt me,” Robinson said. “I intend to find a place closer to my mother and family that will still allow me to achieve my dreams and goals.”

Robinson committed to play for second-year head coach Scott Frost following a sensational senior season at Western Hills High School in Frankfort, earning All-American honors after rushing for 1,973 yards and 30 touchdowns, while catching 31 passes for 725 yards and 11 touchdowns. Counting defense and special teams, he had 45 touchdowns in 11 games in 2018.

Heavily recruited by Mark Stoops and Vince Marrow, Robinson initially committed to the Cats at a well-attended ceremony at his high school. A month later, just two weeks before signing day, the nation’s second-ranked all-purpose back had a change of heart, opting instead to play for the heralded high-flying offense of Scott Frost.

Robinson was used early and often by Frost. The Cornhuskers first ever letterwinner from Kentucky set freshman records for receptions and receiving yards in 2019. He followed the exceptional start by leading Nebraska in receiving in 2020. Used at running back and in the slot, he averaged 4.3 yards per carry and scored four touchdowns on the ground, while picking up three scores through the air and averaging 10 yards per catch, totaling 1,494 yards from scrimmage in two seasons.

Despite Robinson’s personal success, wins were rare. Frost has failed to turn around his alma mater, going just 8-12 over the last two seasons, neither of which ended with a bowl game.

Now one of the most sought after transfers in the portal, Robinson will have three years of eligibility remaining. An immediate impact player, Kentucky’s lengthy relationship with Robinson will come in handy as suitors pursue the versatile athlete. With a new offensive staff promising to revamp the Wildcats’ aerial attack, Kentucky has an enticing pitch for Robinson. We’ll find out in the coming days if UK can finally convince Wan’Dale to play for his Old Kentucky Home.
