New York Times on Chuck Hayes

by:Matt Jones01/14/10
eww I am always interested in how sports change over time. A certain sport develops (like college basketball with the three point line or college football with the spread offense) and all of a sudden previous assumptions about the best method of success are altered. Along those lines, I highlt recommend today's New York Times article on Chuck Hayes and the evolution of the center position in the NBA. In addition to being praiseworthy of a former Cat, the article goes into some detail on how Hayes has utilized a change in the way the NBA is played right now (with more athletic guards who take the ball to the basket more frequently) to his advantage. By utilizing his low center of gravity and quick feet, he is able to defend the pick and roll well and find a place as the NBA's smallest center. A very interesting read and high praise for our man Chuck.
