No. 12 Kentucky Loses to No. 9 Auburn in Southeastern Conference Series

The Cats looked to further their eight-game winning streak after coming off of three non-conference victories earlier in the week; however, they were unable to achieve a win in their three-game series against the Tigers.
On Friday, the Wildcats traveled to Moore Field with a 1-3 SEC record to take on Auburn who held a 4-0 record at the time. Although they gave a good effort, the talented softball team could not overcome the talent of the Tigers, losing 5-0. The loss ended the third longest winning streak in program history for the Cats. Offensively, Griffin Joiner led the team by going 2-for-3 with two singles. Christian Stokes, Maisie Steed, and Erin Rethlake added hits but were unable to score. Defensively, Kelsey Nunley pitched the first five innings of the game and allowed three runs. Shannon Smith tossed the sixth inning and allowed two runs.
This afternoon, Kentucky finished the three-game series off with two additional losses. In the first game, the Cats lost 4-1 to the Tigers. Defensively, Breanne Ray scored the only run of the game and contributed a hit and a RBI. Many players also added hits to the game but were unable to score. Stokes had two, while Steed, Joiner, and Rethlake had one each. Offensively, Nunley pitched five innings and allowed seven hits and four runs. Rethlake finished off the Wildcats by not allowing Auburn to score any final points.
In the final game of the tournament, Kentucky came close to pulling out a win but lost 7-9. The talented team scored early in the top of the first but did not make their huge comeback attempt until the seventh inning where they scored five points. Defensively, Stokes had a big game and scored three runs and three hits. Nikki Sagermann contributed one hit and one run, while Steed did the same while also adding three RBI. Sylver Samuel and Brooklin Hinz each had one run and Hinz added two hits and two RBI. Ray provided a hit and a RBI. Offensively, Rethlake pitched five innings and allowed four hits and three runs. Meagan Prince finished the game, allowing six hits and six runs.
Kentucky will take on LSU this Friday in a three-game conference series.
