Occupy Memorial = Success

by:Tara Bilby02/11/12
Another KSR #occupy movement can be marked as a success. Myself and #lafamilia, Laura Leigh Rossoll and Ally Tucker, woke up at the crack of dawn to begin the #occupymemorial festivities. We met fellow BBN members at McDonalds at 7:00 and received our free sausage biscuits. For it to be so early in the morning, BBN was rolling deep. Some people either didn't get the memo to come ingonito, or just couldn't bear the thought of pretending to be a Vandy fan, but for those of us that did (aka #lafamilia)... it paid off. We all left McDonalds and marched on over to Memorial around 8. Once we arrived, we were told every UK fan must go to a tent and get a ticket for the 3rd level. While the majority of BBN did as they were told, Ally, Laura Leigh and I do not take shafting of the BBN very well, we immediately told the officials that we were Vandy students and headed over to the Vanderbilt student's entrance. To even get into the arena we all had to open our jackets so the officials could make sure we were not wearing any offensive articles of clothing AKA UK2Gay shirts. We had planned on changing out of the black we had wore to sneak into the arena once we actually got inside, but once inside Memorial, all of Vandy's anti BBN signs and intimidating security guards made us change our minds. We had gotten down to the lower arena and made plans to reveal our UK shirts at the perfect moment, if we were getting kicked out of Memorial, we were getting kicked out in style, with our honor and dignity, representing the BBN. As soon as BBN occupied Memorial, Digger Phelps, tried to shut us down. He told us all that this was Vandy's game day, we should be respectful, and we were not to ruin it with our cheering. Crickets proceeded. And then a chant of Go Big Blue. There isn't anyone that can shut down BBN. Due to the lack of students who showed up, #lafamilia and I were given seats that were right in the middle of Vandy's student section. We had successfully occupied memorial. We began to discuss creative and epic ways that we could finally reveal our true identity as BBN faithfuls, we kept waiting for the right camera angle that ensured we were going to be seen. And then it came. We got on ESPN, not once, but twice. We threw up our three goggles and revealed our shirts. Not only did we occupy Memorial, we occupied Vandy's student section. After the big reveal, we began cheering for UK, loud and proud. And the best part of all of this? Vandy didn't care enough to throw us out. We still have Midtown Corner Pub to occupy tonight and will have a post later on. In the meantime if you're not already, follow #lafamilia and myself on Twitter to get updates throughout the rest of the day. @tarabilbyKSR @allytuckerKSR @lauraleighKSR
