Owensboro native finishes 2nd at US Amateur Championship

Owensboro, Kentucky native, John Augenstein, finished second overall in the United States Amateur Championship earlier today. The 21-year-old put up a valiant effort, before falling two holes behind with only one hole to play, conceding the first place trophy to Andy Ogletree.

While not winning it all will certainly sting for him, it isn’t all bad for Augenstein today. With his second-place finish, Augenstein gets an automatic qualifying bid to play in the 2020 Masters and the 2020 US Open.

Here’s what Augenstein had to say about getting a bid to play for the green jacket at Augusta.

On top of qualifying for two of the biggest golf tournaments in the world, Augenstein was also named as a 2019 Walker Cup Selection. The Walker Cup is essentially the amateur version of the Ryder Cup, as ten amateurs from the United States go up against a team of ten amateurs from Great Britain and Ireland.
