Good news for former Cat Patrick Patterson: the Houston Chronicle is reporting that he will likely start for the Rockets this season.
The preseason also will be about final evaluations on contract decisions. The Rockets have until Oct. 31 to extend the contracts of Patrick Patterson, JaJuan Johnson and Marcus Morris for the 2012-13 season. Patterson is likely to be the starting power forward. Morris and Johnson were first-round picks in 2011, and it is exceedingly rare for teams not to exercise their first options on extending rookie contracts.
Last season, Patterson averaged 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds per game after recovering from an offseason ankle injury. He recently told Rockets.com that his goals for the upcoming season were to be the starting power forward (check) and make the All-Defensive Team. Get 'em , PPatt. (H/t to Anthony Wireman)
