NFL teams continue to mold their rosters as the preseason rolls on. Former Kentucky defensive end Calvin Taylor was waived by the Steelers today to make room for offensive lineman Malcolm Pridgeon, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his time in Pittsburgh is over. Taylor is injured, so if he clears waivers, he will revert to the Steelers’ Reserve/Injured list and can rejoin the practice squad once he’s healthy.

Taylor signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent in April 2020, was cut from the roster at the end of training camp, and re-signed to the practice squad, where he spent all last season. He participated in Pittsburgh’s preseason opener vs. Dallas on Thursday, but didn’t record any stats. At Kentucky, Taylor recorded 85 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks while being named to the All-SEC Third Team as a senior.

If you missed it earlier today, Drake Jackson was waived by the Detroit Lions and Jon Toth signed by the Washington Football Team. NFL teams must trim their rosters from 90 to 85 by August 17, 85 to 80 by August 24, and 80 to the final 53-man version by August 31.
