Quentel Jones has multiple SEC schools after him right now, and Kentucky has recently jumped into the equation.

Jones, who is listed as a three-star defensive tackle and a top 60 player from the state of Georgia by both 247 Sports and Rivals, announced on Monday through Twitter that he had received a scholarship offer from Wildcat defensive line coach Anwar Stewart. Kentucky is one of the most recent to reach out among the 20 offers for the 6-3, 285-pound class of 2022 high school junior, and one of five from Southeastern Conference programs.

Joining the UK on Jones’ offer sheet are the likes of Arkansas, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt, along with Oregon, Wisconson, Miami (FL), and a few other smaller schools.

Jones, who plays for Peach County High School down in Fort Valley, GA, has received the bulk of his offers since the end of January, earning 18 offers since Jan. 27. Arkansas was the school to strike first, doing so on Jan. 27, and they’ve kept in constant contact with him ever since. Prior to talking with the Razorbacks coaching staff, Jones only held two offers from Vanderbilt and Akron, which both came near the end of 2020.

Following a coaching change down at Vanderbilt early into 2021, Jones has not since heard from the Commodores, but the traction has picked up elsewhere. Jones told KSR on Wednesday that he regularly hears from all the schools that have recently reached out to him, including the ‘Cats. According to Jones’ head coach at Peach County, Chad Campbell, Arkansas, Miami (FL), and Oregon are the schools that keep up with him the most.

“Every school that offered me recently, I talk to them twice a week,” Jones said. “I got schools like Kentucky talking to me a lot, Arkansas, Oregon, Miami (FL), Tennessee. I got schools that offered me just to offer me and I got schools that offer me that really want me and I know who they are.”

Jones says that Kentucky is definitely one of the schools that fall in the latter category. His relationship with Coach Stewart is only a few weeks old, but the two have quickly developed a relationship strong enough that it eventually led to the offer for Jones.

“They [Kentucky] had called me a few weeks ago and said they saw my film and they like it, but they told me straight up they don’t feel comfortable offering just off your film and how you play,” Jones added. “They needed to know I really like Kentucky and we needed to build that bond, so we built that bond and then they offered me.”

Before receiving offers from Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Indiana over the last week, Jones told Chad Simmons of Rivals nearly two weeks ago that Arkansas and Tennessee were two schools that “could be the ones that get to the end with me.”

A commitment date is expected to come this summer, likely around the first game of his senior season. But before he can get to that point, Jones wants to “take every visit I can take” before making a final decision. As of right now, Jones said he only has one visit lined up, and that’s to go visit Tennessee, but he added that he plans to see the other schools that have offered at some point this summer.

It’s a dream come true going to see every school,” Jones said.
