Random Prep School Gets Nash

by:Matt Jones08/06/06
I must say that even though most assumed this would happen a few weeks ago, I still can't believe it. Tyrone Nash announced this weekend that he will be attending some prep school in the Northeast (maybe the one in "Dead Poet's Society") instead of enrolling this fall at Kentucky. Nash said that he has determined he is more comfortable with prep school right now and that he thinks it is the correct decision for him. I must say that this is beyond belief. Some have reported that the reason for Nash's decision is that he has a friend going to prep school and he wants to go with him for a year. I am going to assume that Tyrone does not have the IQ of a 12 year old girl and would not be basing such a decision solely on hanging with his buddy, so I discount that rumor. But either way, this whole situation is bizarre. The point of prep school is to either get your grades in order (which Tyrone doesnt need) or to give yourself more options on the college front. If Tyrone wants more options than Kentucky and Indiana, then I dont get it. Originally I said this would be a major blow to Kentucky that a kid would pick glorified high school over playing for the winningest program in history. While I dont know if "major blow" is the best description, it still is a bit of a hit. Kentucky will not lose out by not having Nash on the floor (he likely would have barely, if ever, played this year). But it does say something that any kid would not take Kentucky over high school. Now what it says is up for debate....maybe the kid is just odd, I dont know. But I must admit that I really dont get this. Plus I lose the ability to make four years of jokes comparing Tyrone Nash to Kevin "Big Sexy" Nash. Well maybe the fans are actually winners at being spared that fate.....
