Ravi Moss pulls a Billy Martin

by:Matt Jones06/22/06
For the readers of the KSR Radio blog, Ravi Moss is often a very stirring figure. Because this blog has a number of connections to Hopkinsville, Kentucky, the readers and writers tend to take up for Moss, even with all evidence leaning in the other direction. I will be frank. I tended to believe that Moss did something that was previously thought undoable....he was overrated as an unrated walk-on. Moss was often thought to be the "grit" of last year's team and was considered a solid rock for Tubby when problems occurred. However I was always of the opinion that the solid rock on the team was Bobby Perry (especially in the second half of the season) and that by the end of the year, Ravi Moss was a liability. He couldnt shoot, he quit defending and his rebounding numbers went down. And thus while Ramel Bradley, Patrick Sparks and sometimes Rajon Rondo sat, Ravi Moss threw up bricks. But be that as it may, Moss is a graduate of the UK program and represented the University well during his four years. However the news today could not have surprised many, when for the second time, Ravi quit the UK football team. Moss had previously quit once before, but came back saying that there was no way he would quit again. Well that of course was until he had to work out in the summer heat of June in humid Lexington, with all the lack of glamour that is UK football. Look, Ravi gave a lot during his four years at Kentucky. As a walk-on, he likely ranks as one of the best in the history of the program. But the idea he could play football when he never played it in high school was silly. Today's news should have surprised no one.
