COVID-19 has slowed down everything, but somehow it has helped speed up recruiting. KSR’s Recruiting Roundup is where you will find everything important that happened on the trail this past week. UK went another week without scoring a commitment, but there were still plenty of happenings on the trail.

TCU in Kentucky

Gary Patterson has long been one of my favorite coaches in college football with the defensive mastermind carrying the TCU program through three conference changes and landing in the Big XII in 2012. Patterson has guided the Horned Frogs to six top-10 finishes and 11 double-digit win seasons as he heads into his 20th season as head football coach in Fort Worth. He's a visor wearing football coach with some nerdy swagger. Patterson is often at a recruiting disadvantage when it comes to attracting Texas high school talent thanks to the history, tradition and resources found at both Texas and Texas A&M. Therefore, the Frogs have to be creative in how they attract talent and that has found them entering Kentucky in the class of 2022. https://twitter.com/GavinWimsatt/status/1262819736880132102?s=20 https://twitter.com/TreyveonLongmi1/status/1272960623652016128?s=20 Owensboro quarterback Gavin Wimsatt and Corbin athlete Treyveon Longmire are two of the top-five players in Kentucky's loaded upcoming senior class and TCU is making a play for both. It currently looks like the state will produce at least 10 legit Power Five caliber recruits and TCU is going to try to infiltrate the Bluegrass. The Wildcats are going to have to fend off some big programs looking to raid talent in 2022 and the football coach turned country singer will be among the group. https://twitter.com/TCUCoachP/status/1271654917539758082?s=20

Armond Scott Ranking Bump

When Armond Scott committed to Kentucky in early May it gave the program a high three-star receiver with some really good tape. However, he was way down the list when it came to prospects in the state of Ohio and that all changed when 247 Sports released their new rankings. Scott is now listed as a top-50 wide receiver in the class of 2021 in addition to being a borderline four-star prospect. The 6-foot-3 wideout now gives UK their first top-20 Ohio prospect committed to Kentucky as he is the second highest rated player in the class behind Dekel Crowdus.

Jager Burton Update

It's becoming really hard to do these without brining up on the top prospect on Kentucky's recruiting board, and this past week there were two bits of news released that are worth your attention. In that 247 Sports freshly released rankings, Burton got a major bump as he is now the No. 61 player overall and the third ranked guard in the class of 2021. Only Landon Young was higher ranked by 247 Sports coming out of high school. In the composite ranking (a combination of all major recruiting rankings), Burton is now a top-120 prospect and remains a major need for the program. The second bit of news came when Burton decided to change his announcement plans over the weekend. The blue-chipper still wants to take all five of his official visits and he was unable to get these done over the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are unsure when Burton's new announcement will occur, but it's starting to seem like this recruitment will last for an extended period. Ohio State, Oregon, Clemson and Alabama all in the running to beat out Kentucky for the star offensive lineman's services.

Double Dip for a Blue Chip

A couple weeks ago we talked about the fact that UK made the cut for blue-chip flex tight end Michael Trigg and the top-160 recruit received some unique offers over the weekend. https://twitter.com/mtrigg_23/status/1274456316384247813?s=20 https://twitter.com/mtrigg_23/status/1274460171784331271?s=20 https://twitter.com/mtrigg_23/status/1274531273000845319?s=20 It's clear that schools really want the top-five tight end in the class of 2021 and are willing to ask for some help from some of their friends on the hardwood. It is unclear how realistic these basketball offers are, but it certainly can't hurt to get John Calipari to say a few kind words to the big time football prospect. Continue to expect a long recruiting battle for the tight end out of Tampa who currently has basketball only offers from Florida State and USF as a three-star hoops prospect who plays two-guard.

Another Tennessee Flip

Remember when we told you that a bunch of Tennessee flips were coming? Well, we got our second one this weekend following Nate Evans leaving UT's class for NC State. https://twitter.com/ByMikeWilson/status/1274103318109982720?s=20 Kamar Wilcoxson is a blue-chip safety from the suburbs of Atlanta who is now down at IMG Academy in Florida. The top-300 recruit has had a very interesting recruitment and it appears he his headed to Gainesville rather than Knoxville. College football recruiting can be a wild ride. The Gators are up to 20 commits and find themselves in the top-10 nationally, but don't expect them to join the elites unless some things change. Florida has just one top-100 prospect and three top-200 prospects as Dan Mullen still has a ways to go to catch some of the big boys on the recruiting trail.
