The University of Florida is reportedly delaying the start of its 2020-21 college basketball season due to COVID-19.

On Sunday morning, Stadium's Jeff Goodman announced that the team would not play in this week's event held at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. Later in the morning, Andy Katz, from, confirmed the news of the pause in the Florida program. Florida was scheduled to play UMass Lowell on Wednesday and a much-anticipated matchup with Virginia on Friday. The Gators now become at least the 33rd college basketball program to pause activities due to COVID-19. The regular season for the sport is set to begin in roughly 72 hours. In the preseason SEC media poll released earlier this month, Mike White's team was picked to finish 4th in the conference and forward Keyontae Johnson was picked as the preseason player of the year. Kentucky will find themselves with a home-and-home with Florida once again this season. The Cats will make the trip to Gainesville on January 9th with the return trip in Lexington being scheduled for February 27th. According to Katz, the Gators are still planning on opening the season on December 2nd against Oklahoma in Norman. As of right now, all four teams that will be competing in Rupp Arena this week in Kentucky's MTE are still on board.
