Responsible Decisions in the Twittering World: Ricky Lumpkin

With the Twitter account of Will Hill recently brought into the spotlight as a prototype for what not to write if you're a college athlete with access to social media, also comes a rather refreshing example of Twitter done right from one of Kentucky's very own. Ricky Lumpkin, who just finished up his fifth year on campus as an athlete, is determined to finish out his time as a student, too. In an exchange with Derrick Locke, Ricky said that he was going to keep going to class to finish up his double major: Now if you look past the fact that Derrick not only uses social media as a platform for selling his University of Kentucky keepsakes, but also for advocating the skipping of class, and focus instead on Ricky, you'll see the admirable decision making of a very mature young man. Ricky might not have lived up to the hype he had coming out of high school as a Mr. Football from Tennessee, but his contributions as a leader on the team and in the community cannot be undermined. Players like Ricky are what make a football program great. He is the definition of a high character guy and is someone that will continue to be a fantastic ambassador for the program long after his playing days are over. Ricky is graduating with a double major at the end of the semester. In the midst of recruits decommitting and concerns about the coaching staff, this is something that UK football fans can be very proud of. Sour.
