Rich Brooks Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair

In today's press conference -- which we should have a full recap soon -- questions kept coming up about Pawpaw's future with the university. After a second follow-up question, the H-L's Chip Cosby reports that Brooks became "irate":

“You know what? I’m not going to answer anything about that anymore,” Brooks said. “I’m going to talk about Tennessee. None of that junk. This is not the appropriate forum. We have a huge game with a lot at stake, and we’ll address those issues at the appropriate time.

After Saturday's victory in Athens, the talk that I've heard around town and the Internets involved the phrase, "signature win". Some folks think that Coach Brooks now has a fantastic road victory that pairs nicely with his upset of #1 LSU. This evidently completes his legacy for the University of Kentucky the Coach can step down at the end of the year, regardless of the Tennessee outcome.

Of course, why are we so anxious to see him go? There hasn't been much of a slip in coaching or game-calling (unlike in Tallahassee). Brooks and his staff has met and exceeded most expectations (unlike in South Bend). There hasn't been any substantial rumors about head-coach-in-waiting Joker Phillips getting anxious to have the Kentucky program all to himself.

Personally, I don't want him to go until he's bested Head Ball Coach. Plus, if Coach Brooks steps down, we'll lose out on all the great noir fiction and tomato jokes.
