t1_pitino_getty.jpeg Dick "Hoops" Weiss (only the best college basketball columnist in America) comes today with this interesting tidbit concering Rick Pitino and Shaheen Holloway. Apparently Holloway, who once starred at Seton Hall, has been considering a job offer from former (emphasis on the word "former") friend of Rick Pitino, Bobby Gonzalez, who is the new coach at Seton Hall. Currently Holloway is the assistant at Iona under (current) Rick Pitino friend Kevin Willard. Weiss reports that Pitino and Steve Masiello (a voice that you should always trust no matter what the circumstance) have been calling Holloway and urging him not to leave Iona (which is in a conference none of us know) for his ALMA MATER Seton Hall (which is of course in Pitino's Big East). Now the cynic might suggest that this is very self-serving on Pitino's part. Many believe that Holloway is one of the rising young recruiters out there and if Seton Hall were to better itself in recruiting, it might harm that fertile NY/NJ ground that Pitino so often cultivates. Plus, Pitino likely wants to see success for his former assistant at a lesser known school and keeping Holloway will surely help with that. But wouldnt this be an upper career move for Holloway....not to mention he gets to return to his home school? Surely, Pitino could see that and wouldnt let any personal motivations get in the way.....would he? Interesting to watch, and even more interesting to see Weiss report it.....he is a long-time friend of Rick, and if Weiss seems to think its fishy.....well its probably fishy.
