Rick Pitino wants Iona to play Kentucky but not Louisville
One of Rick Pitino’s first acts as the head coach of the Iona Gaels? Getting Kentucky on the schedule. On The Dan Patrick Show this morning, Pitino said he spoke with John Calipari yesterday about arranging a game between the two programs in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden.
“I may schedule, if John — I spoke to Cal, he was nice enough to call me. I would love to schedule Kentucky in the Garden in the Jimmy V Classic. I think that would be a great draw and that would be exciting to see and I hope John would entertain that.”
While Pitino wants Kentucky on the schedule, he made it clear he does NOT want to play Louisville.
“No,” he said. “How quick was that answer?”
