Rondo finishes season as NBA assists leader

by:Matthew Hays04/27/12
As the NBA regular season draws to a close, Rajon Rondo finds himself at the top of the assists mountain. He led the league in assists per game at 11.7. His closest competitor was Steve Nash at 10.7 dimes per contest. Nash did have 44 more assists in total, but Rondo missed 13 games because of injury throughout the strike shortened season. Rondo has established himself as one of the top point guards in the league over the past few seasons, but has a lot of question marks surrounding his future. As the Big Three get on in age, his supporting cast for years to come is still a mystery. If Boston can continue to put productive scorers around Rondo, then the assists title is one that he should hold for many years. In other former Wildcat stat news, DeMarcus Cousins finished the season fourth in the league in rebounds per game. Boogie pulled down 11 per game and finished the season on a high note against the Lakers with 23 points and 19 boards. If DeMarcus can continue the improvement he showed this year, then he will be nearly unstoppable next season.
