The College World Series is currently going on in Omaha, and head coach Nick Mingione is currently working on adding players to the 2023 roster via the transfer portal. However, honors are not yet finished for the 2022 season.

On Monday, the Rawlings Gold Glove Award finalists were announced, and Kentucky’s Ryan Ritter made an appearance.

The junior was joined by Adam Crampton (Stanford) and Austin Thompson (Georgia Southern). During his second season with Kentucky baseball, Ritter was named to the SEC All-Defensive Team as well as earning SEC All-Tournament honors after Kentucky’s deep run in Hoover.

Ritter finished the season batting .283 with 24 extra-base hits, 36 RBI, and a .416 on-base percentage. However, his biggest impact was made on defense as the shortstop recorded a .973 fielding percentage with 137 assists and 83 putouts with just six errors on the year.

Ryan Ritter is currently considered to be the top draft prospect on Kentucky’s team, and the former junior college transfer will have a decision to make soon. Some improvements need to be made with the bat, but this is a player that can already play defense at a big-league level.

Now the Kentucky shortstop might just bring home a huge national award.
