Are the Sacramento Kings moving to Virginia Beach?! The Washington Post cites a report from Inside Business that the Maloof family, which owns the Kings, and officials of Philadelphia-based Comcast-Spectacor will meet next Tuesday to discuss moving the team to the lovely beach resort town. The report says the Maloof family and city officials are expected to announce the decision as early as next Wednesday and Comcast will guarantee a 25-year lease on a new arena in exchange for naming and broadcasting rights. The team has been looking for a new home ever since the Maloof family and Sacramento mayor Kevin Johnson failed to reach a deal on the Maloof's proposed $391 million entertainment complex last April. Louisville mayor Greg Fischer's efforts to woo an NBA team to Kentucky are similarly in a standstill due to the University of Louisville's stronghold over the scheduling rights at the Yum Center. Boogie shouldn't stock up on board shorts just yet. Sacramento Bee reporters Jason Jones and Tony Bizjak say the Kings aren't moving to Virginia, nor have they filed for relocation with the NBA yet. The Maloof family released this statement on the matter: "The Kings have been approached by numerous cities interested buying the team and relocating it. We are not going to discuss which cities have approached the team and are not going to comment on every rumor. I can tell you that the Kings are 100% focused on putting a winning team on the court." Interesting...verrrry interesting.
