Score predictions for second round of the 2025 Kentucky high school football playoffs

Another round of postseason play begins across the state later tonight.

After blowouts consumed the opening round of the 2025 UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals, we’re expecting closer results going into round two. Every school in KSR’s top 25 rankings remains in playoff contention. A couple of games will get us started on Thursday night before the rest of the action takes place under the lights on Friday. The KSR Game of the Week will head to Union, KY, as No. 11 Cooper hosts Scott County in the Class 5A playoffs. We also have a ranked showdown between No. 12 Covington Catholic and No. 8 Johnson Central that will headline this round’s slate of games.

As we gear up for more postseason action, we’re predicting the score for every major game on the schedule for this weekend. Using the Massey Ratings — a system created in 1999 by statistician Kenneth Massey that was used to help determine the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) until 2013 — we can look up score predictions for every game happening across the state.

For a brief explanation, the Massey Ratings are computer-generated ratings based on historical trends and current-year statistics. With that in mind, it will need a few weeks’ worth of games before the numbers begin to hit their stride. However, you won’t find a more reliable system to use in terms of predicting scores throughout the first couple of weeks of the regular season.
