The coach of Kentucky’s rival is reportedly interviewing for a job at an SEC divisional rival.

Tuesday night Josh Kendall from The Athletic reported that South Carolina will interview two coaching candidates after the Thanksgiving holiday: Oklahoma assistant coach Shane Beamer (the son of former Va. Tech head coach Frank Beamer) and Louisville head coach Scott Satterfield. Kendall stated that Carolina has already met face-to-face with Coastal Carolina head coach Jamey Chadwell.

As expected, Louisville athletic director Vince Tyra was quick to dismiss the report. He responded to the Courier-Journal in a text message: “He’s coming out with a statement later. He’s not interested and happy here. No interview.”

Even so, the damage has already been done. UofL fans are not happy.

They are not legitimately concerned that their coach could potentially leave. The source of their frustrations center around the hypocrisy from the “aw shucks” head coach. Cards fans and many others are quick to point out the comments Satterfield made Nov. 2 about Louisville linebacker Thurman Geathers who decided to opt-out with four games to play.

“It’s unfortunate for him but he wants to move in another direction,” Satterfield said. “Like I told our guys we want guys that want to be here. You have to be 100% committed. This is not a sport where you can be half in and half out, you have to be 100% committed to do everything you are asked to do.”

Players have to be 100% committed but coaches don’t? Interesting.

What also has struck a cord with fans is that they aren’t stupid. Satterfield is not going to be South Carolina’s next head football coach. This kind of play is used to leverage for a raise, and frankly, UofL fans don’t believe Satterfield is in any position to jockey for a raise by playing games with the media in the middle of a 3-6 season. This also could be another way Satterfield is signaling that this job in Louisville is going to be much more difficult than he initially anticipated.

There’s a slim chance Satterfield is leaving the Commonwealth. Now that his name has been thrown around for another position, the honeymoon period has officially ended for the 2019 ACC Coach of the Year.

UPDATE: Satterfield threw his L’s up in a statement released just before midnight.
