Some notes as we head into Turkey Day..... --- It was relatively quiet on the UK sports front today, although we did learn that UK football is injury plagued for Saturday. As reported earlier in the week, Marcus Mcclinton and Jeremy Jarmon are out this week, making a thin defense a bit thinner. The Cats expect Trevard Lindley and Myron Pryor to be close to full strength, and the rest of the defense only has minor injuries. --- A lot of talk today about the impact of this game for Randall Cobb as he returns back to the state and city that left him out of their recruiting process. Phil Fulmer today talked about how impressed he was with Cobb and there has been a lot of talk about how UT may have used him this year with their struggling offense. Cobb has been relatively quiet about the game as it approaches and says he doesnt harbor any particular ill will towards the Vols and that this game is similar to all the others. Of course that is what Chris Lofton said as well, and he didnt mean it either. Cobb wants this one bad.....as do I. --- On the basketball side, after the game last night Gillispie said that UK had a "hard 50 minute practice" prior to the game. This once again raises questions about the benefit of having game day practices of the sort. While I dont know what the practice has been like this year, Ramel Bradley told me last year that Gillispie had extremely tough practices the first half of the season and that around SEC play, he stopped doing that and they were more like walkthrus. It is unclear if this is the pattern we will see all the time, full practice early in the season and then back to the regular walk-thru late, but it looks as if for now, full practices are the norm. --- Jodie Meeks is averaging 24 points a game and some have suggested that he should be shooting less. I always thought this was a silly suggestion.....UK needs big points from Meeks for them to have a chance to be successful all year. Gillispie suggested he agreed today, saying that some of Meeks' shots were bad, but that he wanted him taking as many shots or more than he is currently. Meeks will try to be the first UK guard since Derrick Miller to average more than 20 points a game this year. We will have more all day, including Tomlin telling you what you Need to Know, Bobby Perry on UK's performance so far and more goodness. We announce the two finalists for the Blogger contest after the holidays, so keep voting....
