SEC Football: Weekend Wrap Up

by:Will Lentz11/02/10

Tennessee – 24

South Carolina – 38

The Cocks continue to roll and the Vols continue to suck.  Spurrier finished his sweep of Tennessee schools, beating Vandy last weekend and following up with a win against the volunteers this time.  The game was tied at half time, but South Carolina’s run game powered them to a 28 point second half and have continued to put themself in a good place to win the East.

Florida – 34

Georgia – 31

A rivalry that normally has a lot more excitement around it, both teams have had an off year.  However, while Georgia was turning things around and Florida looked to be heading down, it was the Gators that won this years game.  A late bulldog rally was enough to send the game to overtime, but Florida won it with a pick and a field goal.  Urban Meyer is breathing easier, as the longest losing streak of his life is over.

Auburn – 51

Ole Miss – 31

Ole Miss actually managed to keep this game competitive for the first quarter.  Good for them.  Then Cam Newton threw two TD’s and lined up as a receiver to pull in one more.  If it weren’t for Newton, there would be hardly anything to say about Auburn this year.  Don’t expect them to lose their next two games, but their final one against Alabama (before the SEC championship,) should be one to watch.

Vanderbilt – 14

Arkansas – 49

Arkansas QB Ryan Mallet has been plagued by the injury bug the past couple weeks, but he showed fans there was nothing to worry about as he lit up a sorry Commodore team to the tune of 409 yards.  Vandy has yet to win a game in conference, and will likely go into their cross state rivalry with Tennessee in the same position.  It’s been a nightmare of a first season for their new head coach, but then again, it’s Vandy football.  What do you expect?

Kentucky – 17

Miss State – 24

Another tough loss for Kentucky.  I really thought we would score and go for two on that last drive, but it just wasn’t in the cards this time.  It’s beginning to look more and more like this season will go down as one of the many ‘what if’ seasons in Kentucky football, but a bowl game and a streak ending win over Tennessee would still constitute a successful – though not progressive – season in my opinion.
