Shannon Dawson has become a reviled figure in the Bluegrass the past few years, but today, Kentucky fans may want to send him a thank you note for helping the Cats get the 24-17 win over Southern Miss.

Dawson, Kentucky’s offensive coordinator in the 2015 season, got revenge against the school that fired him when Southern Miss beat the Cats in last season’s opener; however, tonight, he helped the Golden Eagles shoot themselves in the foot. What exactly happened was impossible to tell because the ref’s mic was so bad, but Dawson drew a penalty that pushed Southern Miss right up on its own goal line with a minute and a half left. Down seven and no room to breathe, the Golden Eagles were unable to recover, and the game was quickly over.

Thanks, Shannon!
