Despite some rumblings that John Calipari's program had fallen out of favor for Skyy Clark, the Wildcats made the cut. Clark, the No. 13 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, told 247 Sports he has shrunk his list from ten candidates to four finalists: Memphis, UCLA, North Carolina and Kentucky. Clark had this to say about UK:
"I've built a really good relationship with coach [Joel] Justus, that's my guy right there. We talk almost every single day. The history with Kentucky, their players and their school is just amazing. It's a huge thing."
The comments are seemingly good news, until you see his final sentence about North Carolina, "I love them." Once considered a lock to Kentucky, the Tar Heels have picked up momentum in recent weeks, prompting Corey Evans to flip his FutureCast from UK to UNC. “As of today, I still think Kentucky is the team to beat,” Evans said earlier this week on Kentucky Daily. “But no one has recruited Skyy Clark harder and more persistent [than UNC]. They have discussed an opening in the backcourt with Caleb Love leaving after a one-and-done season. That could be Skyy Clark’s spot." Clark does not have a specific timetable on his decision, simply hoping to choose his path this year. That could include a reclassification to the 2021 class, but just like his school of choice, that remains up in the air.
