Matthew Mitchell’s frontcourt has received a 6-foot-4 bonus.

A source close to the Kentucky program has confirmed to KSR that Maryland transfer Olivia Owens has been granted immediate eligibility and will be ready to play for the upcoming 2020-21 season. Owens officially signed with the Wildcats back in early July after two years with the Terrapins. She appeared in 16 games in her first-year before sitting out her sophomore season due to medical issues.

It was initially believed that Owens would need to sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules. However, a waiver was granted that will allow her to play right away. Owens appeared in 16 games during the 2018-19 season at Maryland, averaging 1.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 4.4 minutes per outing. Here’s what you need to know about Owens, and we’ll have more on the site later today about what she can bring to the team from day one.

This is a huge late-addition to the roster, and it will bolster up a frontcourt that is already loaded with veteran talent. The 2020-21 Wildcats just became a bigger threat.
