South Carolina always tough at Rupp

by:Matt Jones01/20/06

The hits keep coming on Saturday as Kentucky plays the Gamecocks in Rupp Arena. The days of calling these games “must-win” are over as the Wildcats’ poor stretch has made virtually every game of supreme importance. However the next few are particularly critical as they are a bit of a dip in the schedule before a monster home stretch that includes two games against Florida and Tennessee, a road trip to Vandy, a road trip to LSU and a road trip to South Carolina. Kentucky has the potential to enter that stretch 5-2 in conference play and that can reasonably happen if they play up to the potential shown at times during the Alabama and Georgia games.
However it all starts Saturday against a South Carolina team that has shown itself to be physical against the Cats over the years and has played Kentucky well, including a couple of close ones in Rupp. When you factor in that the Gamecocks stole a win at Vandy on Wednesday, all signs point towards a close game once again in the hallowed halls.
