In the week one depth chart released today, Southern Miss lists Kwadra Griggs OR Keon Howard at quarterback.  Head coach Jay Hopson said he will not make a decision until Friday or Saturday and that both QBs will likely receive playing time. Shannon Dawson's offense will look dramatically different in 2017 than it did last year after losing veteran quarterback Nick Mullens.  Searching for a replacement, Dawson will not preemptively tip his hand to his former boss. Griggs was considered to be the most likely replacement entering fall camp.  Griggs threw for more than 3,000 yards in junior college prior to his move to Southern Miss this spring.  Poised to earn the starting spot, he suffered a setback two weeks ago in training camp and had to miss a week of practice with a finger injury. Howard had to fill in for an injured Mullens and start two games as a true freshman in 2016.  The running quarterback accumulated 138 rushing yards against Old Dominion and North Texas, but he completed just 44 percent of his passes in two losses.
