(Photo UK Athletics) With so much basketball news popping up yesterday, and Calipari’s trophy tour across Kentucky continuing, we pulled a Louisville media here at KSR and completely ignored the spring football notes. Thankfully the fine people from WYMT did not, and they filled us in on what Joker Phillips called the “best practice of the spring,” on Friday.
Phillips said he was extremely pleased with the energy level of practice and thinks having a large crowd observe practice — UK football hosted part of its yearly coaching clinic at practice this morning — helped get the players more “amped” and focused.
Phillips called it a “really good, upbeat practice.” Certainly welcome words coming from the coach, as fans around the Bluegrass wonder what kind of team we’ll see this coming season. Plenty of young talent to build around, but will that young talent be able to keep up in the SEC? The team had their Saturday practice this morning and Kyle Piercy from Bleed Blue Kentucky was there. He said offensive coordinator Randy Sander commented on running back Josh Clemons’ number change from 20 to 21, saying, “Maybe the zero made him look fat.” Funny stuff, Randy. I like your style. The Blue/White Game is a week from today at Commonwealth Stadium at 6 o’clock.
