Ready for a Joey Gatewood update? Well, there is no Joey Gatewood update. At the start of his first press conference of the season, Mark Stoops was asked about the status of the former Auburn quarterback, who transferred to Kentucky last December, and said the staff is still waiting to hear from the league office if he will be eligible this season.

“Not at this point,” Stoops said. “No. No word.”

Stoops also shot down the rumored gentleman’s agreement between Kentucky and Auburn regarding Gatewood. Last week, Rivals’ Travis Graf reported that Kentucky’s staff agreed not to play Gatewood against Auburn in exchange for the Tigers’ cooperation with the waiver request.

“There is no agreement, no gentleman’s agreement. I’m waiting to hear back from the league because it’s an SEC-to-SEC school [transfer], so we’re waiting to hear back from them.”

In Kentucky’s first depth chart of the season, true freshman Beau Allen is listed as No. 2 quarterback behind starter Terry Wilson.
