A group of about 50 fans greeted Kentucky at the airport in the wee hours of the night following the Cats’ historic win over Florida, and yesterday, Mark Stoops took a moment out of his press conference to thank them for the gesture.

“I wanted to mention that I appreciated that, and our players really did. That meant a lot to our players to meet us at 3 or 3:30 (a.m.) or whatever it was, and to have people there, I certainly made a point to walk out and say hello and thank you to them. Our team did as well. That meant a lot to us.”

LEX18’s Jonathan Dunn captured the team bus rolling up to the fans and Stoops coming up to the fence to thank everyone:

As always, talk of the streak was unavoidable in the days leading up to the game, but Stoops insisted that the only way his players were able to break it was by tuning the noise out.

“Again with that streak, I’ve always addressed you head on, saying it is important, without a doubt to our fan base and to our team, but that wasn’t our full concentration. Our concentration was about us, our preparation, the way we play and continuing to build this team and continuing to play. If you do that, you’re going to put yourself in a position.”

And they certainly did. Now, whenever someone brings up the streak again, they’ll have to include the story of how Stoops took his team to the Swamp and broke it.
