Sunday Morning Hot Links

by:Ally Tucker04/29/12
Good morning, dear friends! Hopefully all of you survived the excitement of NFL Draft Day #3. The wait was worth it though when two of our own, Danny Trevathan and Winston Guy, heard their names called in the 6th round. This morning brings you some links, so let's get not waste any time...   - The Denver Broncos seem to "get it" when it comes to the underrated talent pool of Kentucky's linebackers. The Broncos found a gem in Wesley Woodyard a few years ago when many other teams brushed him off as being "undersized." Danny Trevathan looks to follow in Woodyard's footsteps and the Broncos seem to have found another good fit for themselves late in the NFL Draft.    - The time has come for Big Blue Nation to do what they do best-- overtake and dominate an online poll. Kentucky Baseball's senior 3rd baseman Thomas McCarthy is a finalist for the Lowe's Senior Class Award. McCarthy is currently in 6th place in the voting. We know what the power of Kentucky fans getting behind a poll/vote can do. Let's see if we can't help McCarthy pull ahead in the poll, rewarding him for his all-around excellence while at Kentucky. The award is given to a member of the senior class who excels with notable achievement in 4 areas: community, classroom, competition, and character.   - In case you missed the news yesterday, one Kentucky team will be looking for a new head coach. Morehead State's Donnie Tyndall agreed to a 4-year deal to be the new head coach at Southern Miss. Hopefully Donnie and Darnell Dodson will get along well.   - The Herald Leader's Mark Story wrote an article about Louisville nudging out Kentucky to lead the nation in "intrinsic value." I'll always take the national championship over a championship for intrinsic value, but Story's article brings up an interesting argument that Louisville's basketball team is the most valuable men's college hoops program.   - KSR College's John Wilmhoff has all the post-game details from the UK baseball team's loss yesterday to Vanderbilt, evening the series at 1-1. The rubber match will take place this afternoon.   - UK Hoops coach Matthew Mitchell was presented with a very special and heartfelt award on Saturday. Mitchell was honored by the "University of Kentucky College Education Teachers Who Made a Difference Program."   - The wait was agonizing, but Winston Guy and Danny Trevathan both finally got the phone calls that they coveted all weekend. Jennifer Smith of the Herald Leader had the chance to speak with Guy, who provided some interesting quotes about the process and moment.
