That old familiar feeling: Cats lose heartbreaker as time expires, 37-34

by:Thomas Beisner10/09/10
cam-newton-kentucky After an abysmal first half that saw the Cats allow more yards than they usually allow in an entire game and Auburn jump out to a 24-7 lead in the first 22 minutes, Joker Phillips's team rallied behind four touchdowns from Randall Cobb and pushed the nation's #8 team to the brink, falling on a game-winning field goal as time expired.  On defense, it was a tale of two halves as Steve Brown's unit responded to giving up 31 first half points by allowing only two field goals in the final 30 minutes.  On the offensive side of the ball, Cobb's four scores came from passing, receiving and rushing, but Mike Hartline also put together a nice game, completing 23 of 28 for 221 yards and a touchdown.  It was a game full of emotional highs and, ultimately, an incredible emotional low.  Joker Phillips' team fought hard to come back from a remarkable deficit and just couldn't make the stops on the final drive to finish the game.  But, the SEC is no place for pity and the Cats will have to move past this heartbreaker quickly as South Carolina, fresh off an upset of Alabama, is up next week.
