The Best Game No one Saw

I know there are a lot of you out there who may have had better things to do at midnight on a Saturday night (such as going out on the town, hanging with your lady or sleeping) than simply watching college basketball. But if you are one of those unfortunate souls, you missed one of the best early season college basketball games I have seen in some time. Kansas defeated Florida 82-80 in overtime in a dramatic, well-played contest that confirmed why I think college basketball is BY FAR the best sport to watch as a fan. These two teams had seven guys combined on the floor who may one day be NBA lottery picks, yet there was not an ounce of energy left at the end of the game, as both teams gave it their all. The star of the game was Kansas Sophomore Julian Wright (above) who showed an array of offensive moves and passing ability that makes much of his freshman promise actually come to fruition. Kansas, who was embarrassed by the Preacher Man's University earlier in the season, rebounded well and got great performances from a host of guys. But my focus was on Florida, who didnt play great, but nonetheless showed why they are so tough. Even with their big men, Noah and Horford in constant foul trouble, they stayed in the game thanks to what I believe is maybe their most important player, Taurean Green. He was great leading the team and hitting big three pointers. Noah, when not on the bench, was also solid, making a key tip-in to get the game to overtime. IF you saw the game, you will remember it. IF not, that is too bad as it will likely be one of the two or three best of the year. No offense to my college football friends, including the three Daves from Lincoln Financial, Corso and Herbstreit, or the newly rejuvenated Rich Brooks.....but the real sports is back baby......college basketball time is here!
