governors-cup The Governor's Cup event is tomorrow and lucky for you, our own Freddie Maggard will be on site to give you all the details you could ever want. This is the event's 23rd year and the Kroger Company has the honor of celebrating and sponsoring the famed football rivalry held in Frankfort between our own Kentucky Wildcats and the dirty birds Cardinals of Louisville. Though the game isn't until the end of the season, the reception is still held in June. Tom Leach and Paul Rogers will co-Emcee the event at the Governor's Mansion which will feature a reception and auction.  UK & UL memorabilia and a twenty-three year old bottle of Pappy Van Winkle Bourbon will be featured at the auction. This year's event will honor our own Rich Brooks, as well as Louisville's John L. Smith. Additional honorees include Deion Branch, Jeremy Jarmon, Jim Kovach and Mark Sander. Thanks to The Kroger Company, both schools will benefit academically and receive $10,000 to their respective general scholarship funds. After 23 years of sponsoring this event, Kroger has racked up a donation total of $460,000 combined to the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville. This year's Governor's Cup will also benefit the Dare to Care organization and God's Pantry Food Banks. Be sure to check back with us tomorrow for updates on the annual event that brings Kentucky and Louisville together for a great cause.
