The John Calipari Basketball Experience is Coming

by:Ally Tucker08/23/12
Per Matt Jones... The weekend of September 15th is shaping up to be a huge sports weekend for Kentucky. The UK NBA Alumni game will begin at 2 pm, followed by the UK football game vs Western Kentucky at 7 pm and of course, the tailgating in between. But in the two days leading up to that Saturday, the first ever John Calipari Basketball Experience will be taking place in Lexington as well. The Calipari Experience is basically a fan’s chance to experience what it would be like to be a UK basketball player for three days. It includes a Draft Party, in which you will be selected to a team based on your basketball skill, a number of games in which you will be coached by former UK players such as Anthony Davis, John Wall, Tayshuan Prince, etc, coaching by John Calipari, a day of UK practice in the same way that players go through at Kentucky and much more. For those of us with absolutely no chance to play for Kentucky, or in my case, anywhere, it is the closest attempt at living the UK dream as can be imagined. John Calipari said participants will essentially experience what it’s like to be a Kentucky basketball player. The experience will feature “everything from uniforms, to practice sessions, to film sessions, to being coached by our staff and former players here.” “It’s a wonderful way for us to, one, connect a whole new realm of people to our program, but the biggest point is all the money will go to the foundation,” Calipari said. “It’s another way of doing thing that we do, leveraging what we are and what we are about, and giving that back to our community and our state and different causes we’re involved in.” There are literally people coming from all over America to participate in the experience. And to show you that anyone can do it, I am even going to be going through the experience and blogging about it/doing our radio show from it, each day.
