The Latest Billy Clyde Rumor and Other Updates

Billy Gillispie's name has been linked to another head coaching rumor. Buffzone Blogs (a Colorado blog) writes that the rumor of the day is that Iowa State is thinking about showing current head coach Greg McDermott the door. The blog adds that the Cyclones are very interested in non-other than Billy Clyde Gillispie. Here are a couple of sentences from the site: "We also heard that Cyclone officials are allegedly interested in former UTEP, A&M and Kentucky head coach Billy Gillispie. If that’s the case – shame on the Cyclones. We hope they learned their lesson with ex-football coach Gene Chizik, who bolted Ames at the first opportunity. Gillispie would no doubt take the same route … after all, how long did he stay at any of his previous schools?" I can't speak on the validity of this rumor but what I can say is that it is becoming more and more apparent that Gillispie will be back on college basketball's sidelines soon. Honestly, if Gillispie has managed to turn his life around, I'm happy for him and I wish him the best (as long as it has nothing to do with Kentucky basketball). Couple of evening notes: - Congrats to a couple of UK recruits (one signed and one uncommitted); Stacey Poole and Brandon Knight have both led their teams to Florida's state tournament semifinals in their respective classes. - I am going to give you a link that you should check out. This site discusses the UK student section at Rupp Arena and then uses a spectacular array of supply/demand economics' graphs to validate their point-of-view. In the end, the site says it's time to change the Kentucky student ticket lottery process and from all I've heard this season, I tend to agree. If you read that article, you likely just earned 3 Economics 301 credits. Good job! - Finally, Mike DeCourcy of SportingNews.com says that John Calipari is selling the SEC title short with his recent comments that he is not concerned with that particular feat. DeCourcy argues that college basketball teams only get so many opportunities to go for five achievements: in-season tournament, the league regular season, the conference tournament, the Final Four and/or a national title. He says the majority of teams go 0-for-5 on that list and UK should consider itself lucky to have an opportunity to accomplish such things. What are your thoughts on Calipari's comments?
