The Latest On Terrence Jones

by:Dustin Rumbaugh05/01/10
So have you guys heard this news about Terrence Jones?!? Apparently he wasn't quite ready to make a decision yesterday. Jones said that he literally made the decision as he sat at the table and most people that I've talked to agree that he wasn't exaggerating a bit. The pressure of staying close to home and having a very close friend attending Washington also probably played a part in which hat he chose when still a bit undecided. My thought is that it was much easier to err on the side of Washington during the press conference than to err on the side of UK. Before we get on to today we need to get a couple of things straight. The quote in the Seattle Times saying, "He told me, "You hurt thousands of people just as much as you make people happy," has been a bit misunderstood and has led some to portray Calipari in a negative light. The quote should read Terrence Jones told me [the reporter], "You hurt...."  It was nothing more than a quote from Jones about the positives and negatives of making a final decision and not a rehashed quote from Calipari. That's important to note. Secondly, it was Jones that called Calipari after the press conference, not the other way around. That's important to note both, again, because of the negative light Calipari has been cast in afterward and what it means in terms of whether Jones was undecided or pressured into being undecided. He was just undecided. Nothing wrong with that. It's a big decision. Now on to today. I told you guys yesterday that there was a positive air around both the Washington and Kentucky sides depending on who you talked to. Today seems to be much the same from Kentucky's side of things. I don't know one way or the other when it comes to Washington's. If I had to guess, I would assume that they aren't as confident as they were at about 4:00pm west coast time yesterday. Today should be the day a final decision is made. The Seattle Times reported rumors of a press conference but that seems to just be rumors and nothing more. I've heard nothing about this except for the report. So there you go. It only seems right on Derby Day to say hold onto your horses....
