Maybe it’s just the Cardinal mascot that brings bad luck to an organization.  This time it isn’t in Louisville, though. It’s in St. Louis. In case you have not heard yet, the St. Louis based baseball time is currently being investigated by the F.B.I. and Justice Department after evidence was uncovered of the Cardinals official breaking into a network of the Houston Astros which housed special databases the team built. The information in the databases included trades, proprietary stats and scouting reports. The New York Times broke the story this morning, although the extent of the data breach is currently unknown.  The FBI reports there might be other teams affected and the investigation has progressed enough that subpoenas have been served to the Cardinals and the MLB. The Cardinals have also not suspended any employees as of yet, but they did not take time to point fingers, according to the Times
Law enforcement officials believe the hacking was executed by vengeful front-office employees for the Cardinals hoping to wreak havoc on the work of Jeff Luhnow, the Astros’ general manager who had been a successful and polarizing executive with the Cardinals until 2011.
