[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="1000"] Photo: FIBA[/caption] Washington led the USA  on July 4th…not that Washington, future Wildcat PJ Washington. He came out of the gate in the first quarter, nailing his free throws and lay ups. In the beginning the Italian team provided more of a challenge than the last two competitors. The score got too close for comfort, but Washington was a fearless leader and went on a six-point scoring streak. “We just made a bunch of shots started going, we started getting some fast breaks, we started getting some steals and I felt like the game took off from there,” said Washington nonchalantly. Washington’s plays come from guidance under a coach on the sidelines and from one in the stands. Coach Paul Washington Sr. is the head coach at Findlay Prep Academy and PJ’s dad. During the tournament his eyes haven’t left the court. Washington Sr. might not be with his son during the games but Washington Jr. says the coaching hat doesn’t come off. “His input is always after the game. I mean, I expect it now,” Washington Jr. said laughing,  “I mean he’s a coach and I’m a coach's son, I’ve been doing this for years and he’s been doing it for years so I’m pretty sure I’m gunna hear from him after this game.” He said its a blessing to have his dad and the rest of the family come across the world to watch him play. Washington finished the game as the team's leading scorer with 20 points (8/9 FG), 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. Team USA found their footing after the first quarter and went on to win their 4th of July game 98 to 65. What is more patriotic than that?
