The Reds Report: June 5

usp-mlb_-st-louis-cardinals-at-cincinnati-reds-e1422563998789 After two miserable weeks, it's nice to have some good news. This week the Reds went 5-2. That's right, over the past week Cincinnati won more than twice as many games as they lost. A 5-2 week. I've only got one question. Who's dancing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DY_DF2Af3LM Welcome to the first ever no-negativity edition of the Reds Report. 1. So how were the Reds able to have such a successful week? It doesn't hurt to have the best offense in baseball over the past seven days. Over this stretch the Reds hit .314/.373/.624 and hammered more home runs than any team in baseball (19). Yes, playing a few games in Colorado didn't hurt. 2. Which hitters do we have to thank for this offensive outburst? First and foremost is Jay Bruce who hit .379/.400/1.034 over the past week. Bruce also chipped in with 4 home runs. This week reminded Reds fans of just how good Bruce can be. It also means he's starting to re-establish his trade value in the eyes of other clubs. Enjoy Bruce while you can because it's unlikely he finishes this season in Cincinnati. 3. Adam Duvall is still in the midst of an improbably successful season at the plate. He added five more home runs to his total this week including the game winner against the Nationals on Saturday. 4. This is your weekly reminder that Billy Hamilton is crazy fast. 5. If you've followed the Reds you obviously know the struggles the bullpen has faced. Over at the Cincinnati Enquirer C Trent Rosecrans discussed help being on the way in the form of former Reds starter Michael Lorenzen. 6. However, Lorenzen isn't the only Reds starter who could return to offer help in the bullpen. Today Zach Buchanan reported that the Reds are expected to keep Raisel Iglesias in the pen for some time once he returns. 7. The MLB Draft is coming on June 9. The Reds hold the second pick, and there has been a lot of discussion about who they might take. In Jim Callis latest mock draft, he predicts Cincinnati to take Tennessee third basemen Nick Senzel. You can read more about Senzel in Derek Grimes' prospect report at Red Reporter. 8. What do you do when you've had a good week, but you still find yourself 19 games out of first place as the Reds do? Well, if you're me you make up a new division to keep things interesting. Over at Red Reporter we created the "Dumpster Fire Division" consisting of the four worst teams in baseball. At least Cincinnati has something to play for now? This week the Reds will play six games at home. They start a three game set with the Cardinals on Tuesday, and close with a three game series against Oakland over the weekend. You can follow the Reds, and Eric's writing, all season long at Red Reporter.
